A message from the Students' Union President 22-23

Back to Thriving
This past academic year has truly been the highlight and significance that we are out of the transition mode from the severe impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic. From the autumn time when we saw the return of Freshers’ Fair and students entering the RVC properties for the first time to the joyous celebration of the Christmas Ball in December, the first one in over two years, RVC life has been full of excitement! In addition to the plethora of events making their glorified debuts on both campuses in Hawkshead and Camden, the atmosphere of the environments has truly emphasized the return of student life from those studying in the social spaces to the interns grabbing breakfast in the refectory after the night shift.
Clubs and societies are operating in full force alongside the massive achievements of our raising and giving efforts to funnel several thousand pounds to charities on a local and global perspective on behalf of the RVCSU. The springtime has also brought the return of May Ball and Varsity, events validating the spirit of “Work Hard, Play Hard.” Furthermore, Open Day was celebrated when RVC welcomed over 700 prospective students to campus where they could learn more about our teaching, facilities, research, and academic personnel. The future generations of our professions: veterinary, vet nursing and science are certainly bright!
Undertaking the role of Students’ Union President during my final year as a veterinary medicine candidate has been a humbling and great joy. The opportunity to connect and work with my fellow officers, staff, and university officials has provided countless learning opportunities as well as bringing me both personal and professional satisfaction. Team-building and support have been at the forefront of operations both internal and external, and I cannot wait to see the barriers the student body continues to break.
Finally, I want to take the time to congratulate all those who will soon be joining the alumni ranks of RVC; our hard work and determination have truly paid off, but always remember to pay it forward just like those who have done so in supporting our education, experiences, and well-being. To those continuing their studies, always remember that you define your path no matter what route it seems to take at times. Build your own platform and dare to lead with grit and grace, aiming to be a person of value, not simply success, in an environment where you are meant to thrive and not just survive.
