Investing in our Student Support Fund

With support from our alumni, nearly £100,000 has been dedicated to help our most vulnerable students to remain and succeed in their studies.

You may remember experiencing financial difficulties when you studied at the RVC. In fact, many of you have benefitted from such funds whilst here. Today, the cost-of-living crisis and rising inflation are putting additional pressure on student finances. The Student Support Fund can offer a lifeline, helping students to feel valued and giving them the financial security they need to enable them to focus on their studies.

For the academic year 22/23, the government student loan increased by 2.3% and in comparison, consumer price inflation rose by 11.1%. This has made it difficult for our students to meet everyday costs such as rent, food, travel and utility bills. The Student Support Fund helps students who experience financial hardship, due to changes in personal circumstance including:

  • reduced household income
  • loss of part-time work
  • illness
  • needing to move accommodation unexpectedly.

Funded by the RVC Alumni Fund and the RVC Animal Care Trust, the fund provides essential support. By alleviating financial hardship and mental distress, students can focus on their studies and go on to achieve their potential.

Between August 2022 - November 2022 the average award made from the Student Support Fund was £1,109.

Who we help

Priority for grants from the Student Support Fund is given to our most vulnerable students including:

  • carers
  • students leaving care
  • students estranged from their parents
  • students with disabilities
  • students from low-income families.
