5 Ways to BE Well
RVC’s 5 Ways to BE Well will help you meet friends, develop new skills and make positive changes to maintain a good study /life balance.
Drop in to one of our 5 Minute Skill Hacks sessions.
You’ll find them around the campus – where you are – in the social learning spaces, canteens and coffee shops.
They are designed to help you develop:
- Quick ways to be mindful and relax throughout your day
- Tips and tricks with digital tools for your study
- How to access academic writing support
- Time management skills for your study routines
Collect 5 skills and you’ll get a free gift!
Find out more here or access the event schedule here and on the RVC app.
Student Support Services
The RVC has a variety of support services to help you with all aspects of student life. These are listed below.
Find out more about each of the services and what they do here.
Equipment you'll need
Uniforms and equipment
You will need to buy some uniform and equipment for your course (for example, lab coats or wellies).
The items you’ll need will depend on your course and you can find that information here.
You will be able to purchase/order items during Freshers week. Alternatively, we do have some second-hand items available through our RVC Freecycle service. If you are interested in these, please complete this form and if we have them available, we will reserve these items ready for you to collect at Camden during Freshers.

Student Life
Students’ Union
Congratulations and welcome to all our new students from all of us here at the Students’ Union!
We are a membership charity run by students, for students, and answer foremost to students. Our officers are democratically elected and led by the SU President, Vice Presidents and an amazing team of SU Officers.
The SU runs a range of facilities for RVC students:
- Two campus bars, The Haxby and The Buttery, which are managed and staffed by students
- The Camden Gym and Activities Studio and a SU Common Room at each campus
- Regular free gym and activities classes in the SAWC in Hawkshead
- An ever-increasing variety of inexpensive clubs and societies for any student at the RVC to join
Even with all the social activities and support, the SU is a union at heart. We aim to bridge the gap between the student body and the RVC by making sure your voice is always heard. Our Officer Team and the Course Representatives are here to listen to your concerns.
Visit the SU website to find out more or join our Facebook page.
RVC Shop
In addition to uniform and essential equipment for your course, we offer a range of branded merchandise for sale in our online shop and also we will soon be opening a retail outlet on the Hawkshead Campus where you will be able to visit in person to select your items.
In addition, we run pop-up shops at Camden during the year, in addition to the sale of uniform at the Freshers event.
Staff, students and friends of the RVC donate items to our Freecycle service which is available to staff and students. Based at Boltons Park Farm, open 9.30am to 4.30pm on weekdays, you can find a range of second hand clothes, uniform, books, household items, stationery and much more. Please do visit and remember to donate any useful items you might have.
Community Relations at the RVC – Volunteer With Us
We are always looking for students who would like to engage with the local community.
We currently organise school visits, foodbank collections and litter picks, as well as attending events such as local carnivals, amongst our many activities.
If you are interested in volunteering, already volunteering, or have some ideas to share, we would love to hear from you.
Find out more here or email us at communityrelations@rvc.ac.uk and we will be in touch!
Animal Care Trust – Supporting Clubs and Societies
The Animal Care Trust provides match funding for RVC Clubs and Societies, so whether you’re raising money for a new sports kit or new equipment, you can make your fundraising go further by doubling what you raise.
Email us at act@rvc.ac.uk to find out more.
RVC4Life – Linking students and alumni
RVC4Life is our community of current and past RVC students.
Your relationship with the RVC does not end at graduation. We offer benefits and services to our alumni and keep them connected to the RVC via reunions, newsletters, networking events and an annual magazine; Eclipse. Find out more here.
