World Veterinary Day
24th April 2021
The World Veterinary Association created World Veterinary Day in 2000 as an annual celebration of the veterinary profession, taking place on the last Saturday of April. This year's theme is “Veterinarian response to the COVID-19 crisis”.
Below, we have highlighted some of the stories sent to us from pet owners who have been cared for by the RVC animal hospitals during a difficult time for everybody.
"Nyx has been with you since the 1st April. I can safely say that you guys have saved his life and I will forever be grateful for this.
I can’t wait to see my boy again - really hoping that I can finally bring him home on Friday or at the weekend. It's been way to long without being able to cuddle or kiss my gorgeous dog!"
"Bella came into QMH at 6am with a suspected slipped disc at the end of February. She was unable to move her back legs or walk but still had some deep pain sensation. Sabrina and the team worked on her and she was back home with us a week later.
It was so scary having her so far away from us for so long especially as we weren’t able to visit, but the team did a great job of keeping in touch with us every day and have provided amazing aftercare too. Fast forward a month and Bella is now able to go on a couple of small walks a day. We cannot express how hugely grateful we are to everyone at RVC for getting our best friend back to us. You’re all incredible!"
"You looked after my boy zero twice in the pandemic and saves his life. I honestly cannot thank you enough. He has haemolytic anaemia and was with you for 9 days to save his life the first time. It was so scary but your fabulous team cares for him and us beyond all measure. He came hone on so many drugs and you guys worked really hard with his local vets for months to slowly get his blood work back to normal range and then taper him off the meds.
Then, he completely stopped eating and refused to eat for weeks and ended up back with you guys again. After lots of tests and investigations we couldn’t find a cause but perseverance and advice and changes to our routine helped crack that and now zero is the happiest he’s ever been. We are forever in your debt. He is our baby and you brought him back to us when we thought there was no hope!"
"This is Moses, one of a pair of rescue cats that we initially fostered and then adopted during lockdown. Shortly after we started fostering him we noticed he had quite shallow breathing, so we took him to the shelter approved-vet who referred him on to the RVC for further examination. The staff at the QMHA were brilliant and really looked after him whilst he underwent lots of tests.
Unfortunately, Moses diagnosis was not great - he has a heart condition that had already progressed beyond the point of being fixed. But the course of treatment given by the RVC Vets means you wouldn't notice!
"Little Alfie was looked after in October 2020 after suffering from a slipped disc. He was so well looked after at RVC and I was kept up to date every day with how he was doing in the 4 days he stayed with you.
My mind was at total ease with him in your care and I would highly recommend. Thank you RVC!"
"Here’s a video of Gucci seeing Faye for the first time after about three months due to the first lockdown last year"
"My sweet 4yr old boy Jarvis was brought to you as an emergency at the end of March. He was treated for heart disease (which we had no knowledge of) and a very painful blood clot in his leg. Thank you for not giving up on him".
"Archie Maisey seen this morning in the cardiology department. I'm incredibly grateful to the staff who took care of Archie this morning and so pleased that we can still bring our precious pets to such caring people. Many thanks to you all".

"Lola treated by your amazing team August 2020. Lola is now very Happy and Healthy again".
"We are very grateful for all the treatment, support and Indie is just 17 months old Indie so was urgently in need of her annual boosters."
"This is Zoro. He was an emergency admission in Nov with saddle thrombosis. After a heart scan, the lovely staff talked me through what they found and I decided to have him pts ( he was 16). They were so sensitive and helpful as I said goodbye to him. I'd rescued him 9 months before. It was heartbreaking but made easier by the great staff".
"Treated by both the emergency and medicine team. Molly is very grateful".
"Photos from now to 8 weeks ago. Showing little Reg and his amazing recovery from Wobblers due to Steven and his fab Neuro team. Thank you!"
"Kobi was with you at the RVC just before Christmas - he was predominantly looked after by Dee I believe. Kobi was able to come home to us on the 23rd December and we had a fantastic last Christmas together, we sadly lost Kobi in January but having him home with us was the best Christmas present you could ask for!"
